ORIENTAL - Neva Bray Lee, 96, of Lovick-Lee Road, was released from her
Earthly bonds on December 13, 2010 at Britthaven of Pamlico.
Mrs. Lee, a life-long resident of Pamlico County, was born January 2, 1914
to Sarah Rowe Bray and Charles Edward Bray Sr. in Merritt where she lived
until her marriage to Harry Bunting Lee of Arapahoe in 1934. She and Mr.
Lee then resided in the Arapahoe area where they worked together to farm,
rear their family of six children, and continue to support each other for
the next 73 years.
Mrs. Lee, a graduate of Stonewall High School, received her licensed
practical nursing training at Beaufort County Hospital in Washington,
North Carolina. She was employed at St. Luke's Hospital in New Bern and
Pamlico Medical Center in Bayboro. Additionally, she blessed the Camp Sea
Farer girls with her skills as a pastry cook. Most of her life's work was
experienced on the Lee Farm where she contributed to most every farm task
while also taking care of all household responsibilities. She was a
talented seamstress, remarkable cook and knowledgeable gardener who knew
how to make the most of the least. Preferring to work outside, she was
not a housekeeper but a homemaker who loved all God's creations and shared
that love with her children. She was a wonderful mother and supportive
wife who sacrificed many of her personal dreams to be totally committed
to the success of her family.
Mrs. Lee is survived by five children: Helen Jones, Betty Gilgo and
husband Jack, and Richard and wife Susan, all of Oriental; Harry and wife
Betty, and Sarah Koos and husband Bill, of New Bern. She leaves seven
grandchildren: Wynne Gilgo Paul and husband Clifton of Grantsboro; Gina
Gilgo Glass and husband Ernie of Charlotte; Christopher Lee and wife
Serena of Oriental; Karen Lee Brock and husband Adam of San Diego,
California; Edward Lee of Bryan, Texas; Eric Koos and wife Melissa of New
Bern; and Allison Koos Rash and husband Jack of Charlottesville, Virginia.
Surviving great-grandchildren are: Cody and Taylor Paul of Grantsboro,
Christan and Alicia Lee of Oriental, and Ryan and Natalie Koos of New
Bern. Predeceasing Mrs. Lee were her husband Harry, son Eric, sister
Nina Brinson, and brother Charles "Bill" Bray Jr.
A memorial service for Mrs. Lee will be held at the Arapahoe Free Will
Baptist Church on Thursday, December 16 at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in
the Lee Family Cemetery in Arapahoe. Family will greet friends at Bryant
Funeral Home in Alliance from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday, December 15.
Arrangements are by Bryant Funeral Home.
