Paul William Dexter, 89, of Oriental, passed away Thursday, May 21, 2009,
at Service League of Greenville Inpatient Hospice. Paul was an avid
ballplayer/sportsman in his early years, a tech sergeant in the Army Air
Corps in World War II, graduated from Toledo University, and was a
district manager in agriculture sales, winning the prestigious Rifleman
Award with Dow Chemical Company. In his later years, Paul was a sailor and
a fisherman who loved shrimping in particular. For the past decade, he
was an active member/employee of the Village Health and Fitness Club and
looked forward each year to competing in the Neuse River Senior Games.
His keen sense of humor will be missed by family and friends. The first
in his family to attend college, he worked hard to provide his family
with a "good life" and did a wonderful job of it.
He will be missed by many and is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jean,
of Oriental; his son, Stephen, and his wife, Linda, and daughters, Megan,
Leslie and Jeanette of New Jersey; his daughter, Jill, of Orlando, Fla.;
his son, Tad, of Reelsboro, his wife, Rhonda, and his children, Paul,
Melissa and Ashleigh; and his great-grandchildren, Laney, Gavin and
Timothy; and stepchildren, Tommy and Emily.
A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.
