BAYBORO - Randolph Earl Watson "R.E.", of Bayboro, affectionately known as
"Pee Wee," went to be with the Lord on June 11, 2011.
He was born November 12, 1927 in Lowland, N.C.
Mr. Watson is survived by his wife of 61 years, Virginia Hooker Watson of
the home and two children; Randy Watson of Bayboro and his companion,
Rebecca Roush and Fran Englert of Matthews and her husband, Larry; and
grandchildren, Daniel Watson, Jenna, Josh and Peter Englert.
He was preceded in death by his father, Randolph Edward Watson; mother,
LuDora Williamson Watson; brother, Garland Watson; and sisters, Vera
Keiser and Evelyn Charbeneau.
Mr. Watson served in the Merchant Marines as a young man.
In the 60s he owned and operated the Red & White Grocery Store in Alliance.
In the 1970s he opened Pamlico County's first catalog Sears store and most
recently Watson's Mini Storage.
A lifelong resident of Pamlico County, Mr. Watson served as a volunteer
fireman during his younger days and Bayboro town commissioner in his
latter. He was an active member of Bayboro United Methodist Church where
he grew in his faith, sang in the choir and participated in the functions
of the Methodist Men's Fellowship.
His family and grandchildren were an important part of his life and he was
greatly loved by them. He enjoyed being outdoors and always had a
"building or fix-it" project underway at his river place. He farmed, grew
hay and spent many happy hours on the seat of his "beloved" tractor.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to Dr. John
Cho and the dedicated staff of Craven Cancer Care in New Bern for the care
and support rendered throughout Mr. Watson's courageous battle with cancer.
Also, a special thanks to Hospice House of Greenville, NC and to Ms.
Debbie Edwards in particular for her wonderful care and support of Mr.
Watson and his family during his final days.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 14, at Bryant
Funeral Home in Alliance with the Rev. Richard Baldwin officiating.
Interment will follow in New Bern Memorial Cemetery.
Arrangements by Bryant Funeral Home and Crematory, Alliance.
