Obituary of Ray Armstrong ~ 2009

REELSBORO - Ray Armstrong, 64, passed away on October 17, 2009, at
CarolinaEast Medical Center. Ray grew up in the Maribel Community in
Pamlico County but spent most of his adult life in Vandemere. He was a
commercial fisherman by trade and loved the fishing industry. Ray was a
die-hard Carolina Tar Heel fan and loved spending Monday nights watching
WWE Raw with his sons and grandsons.
Ray was an active member of the United States Navy where he served a tour
of duty in Vietnam and received an Honorable Discharge. Then he began his
journey in life as a husband, father, and grandfather. Ray loved all of
his grandchildren dearly. He loved to see them smile. He will always be
remembered by his family and friends as a man with a big heart who would
do anything for anyone especially his grandkids.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Pearl Armstrong and two
brothers, Jr. Arm-strong and Clyde Armstrong.
Ray is survived by his wife of 39 years, Katie Armstrong of Reelsboro;
three sons, Michael Moody, Jamie, and Jeff Armstrong, all of Reelsboro;
one daughter, Beverly Titus of Grantsboro; nine grandchildren, Katelyn and
Krystyn Griffin of Grantsboro, Shelby Moody of Edenton, Brittany,
Gabrielle, Andrea, Shanna, Karma and Starla Armstrong, all of Reelsboro;
four grandsons, Jeffrey Michael Armstrong of Reelsboro, Noah and Jordyn
Titus of Grantsboro, and Eric Hopkins; and one great-granddaughter,
Presley Raye Boyer. In addition, he fostered and helped raise his niece
and nephew, Jessica and Charlie Jones of Reelsboro. He is also survived by
one sister, Barbara Cousins of Grantsboro; two brothers, David Armstrong
of Greenville and Eddie Armstrong of Bridgeton. He was also loved and will
be missed by many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service is scheduled at 11 a.m., Thursday, October 22, at
Celestial Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Blaney Rowe officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, October
21, at Bryant Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family asked that memorial contributions be made to
Bryant Funeral Home, P.O. Box 99, Alliance, NC 28509.
