Richard M. Greene, Sr. was born to Dorothea and Raymond Greene of Brooklyn,
NY on August 6, 1940 and passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 18, 2010
in his home in Arapahoe, NC.
He is survived by his loving wife, Tatiana; his daughter, Carol Ansberry
and her husband, Paul; their children, Jake and Jordan Ansberry; his son,
Richard Greene Jr., and his wife, Liz. Richard also leaves an extended
family of stepchildren, Jana, Ilia, Zhenya; and step-grandchildren, Masha
and Sasha in Russia.
Richard “Dick” grew up in Southampton, NY and graduated from Southampton
High School in 1958. He excelled at track and field and racing boats. He
served in the Army, stationed in Munich, Germany for two years. Dick made
a living as a diesel mechanic, but also had other talents such as being a
tractor-trailer driver, a part time snowplow driver, oil platform ferry
captain, a scalloper, and promoting his wave abatement invention. If it
was broken, Dick would commence to fix it. Whether it was an engine, a
child’s toy or a friend’s troubles. He was a loving husband, father and
friend. Always willing to give a helpful hand to any friend or neighbor.
Dick had a great love of the water that he has passed down to his
children. Dick “retired” to Pamlico County in 2002 where he enjoyed living
and playing on the water. Dick achieved his Captain’s license in 2004. He
was also a volunteer for the Southeast Pamlico Volunteer Fire Dept. and a
member of the Oriental Dance Club and Alliance United Methodist Church.
Dick was happiest when surrounded by family, friends, and neighbors. One
of his tenants even remarked that “Dick was the only yankee that I could
call a friend”. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday,
March 27, at Bryant Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Penny Dollar Farmer
officiating. A reception will immediately follow at the home, 3101 Janeiro
Rd., Arapahoe.
Arrangements by Bryant Funeral Home & Cremations, Alliance.
