Obituary of Rosemarie Zachow Hughes ~ 2005

MINNESOTT BEACH - Rosemarie Zachow Hughes of Minnesott Beach died June 14, 
2005 after a brave battle with breast cancer. 
A memorial service was held at Arapahoe United Methodist Church on Friday, 
June 17 at 11:00 am with the Rev. Penny Dollar Farmer officiating. 
Visitation followed in the church fellowship hall.  
Mrs. Hughes was born in Kansas City, Missouri on December 22, 1926 to the 
late William and Elisabeth Zachow. She retired from New Jersey Bell 
Telephone Company and moved to Minnesott Beach with her late husband, 
Christopher J. Hughes. Mrs. Hughes was an active member of the community, 
serving as mayor, on the town council, and on the planning commission.  
An active member of Arapahoe United Methodist Church, she was church 
secretary and lay leader. Mrs. Hughes also served as office manager at 
Camp Don Lee for many years. A lifelong stitcher, Mrs. Hughes was known 
for the many beautiful quilts and clothing that she made. She generously 
taught others the joys of quilting. Mrs. Hughes shared her singing talents 
as a member of the Pamlico Chorale and Arapahoe United Methodist Church 
choir.  
Mrs. Hughes was loved and will be greatly missed by her late husband's 
children: Susan Fowler and husband, Tim, of Virginia, Douglas Hughes and 
wife, Dara, of Minnesott Beach and James Hughes and wife, Lynn, of 
California. She leaves three beloved grandchildren: Todd Fowler, Yasmine 
and Brendan Hughes. She is also survived by family in Oregon: a brother, 
Herbert Zachow; a niece, Janice Dill (children Jesse, Jonathon and Sarah); 
and a niece, Karin Zachow of Florida.
