NEW BERN - Royal Lee Nelson, 77, of 2008 Charles St., Pembroke community 
of New Bern, died Saturday, Feb. 6, 2010, at Two Rivers Health Care-Neuse 
Campus.  
He was a native of Pamlico County and a retiree of Camp Lejeune Marine 
Base. He was a dedicated member of St. Paul Church of Christ Disciples of 
Christ Church, having served as a deacon, trustee and many other 
capacities.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Paul Church of 
Christ Disciples of Christ Church, with Emmitt Godette, pastor, 
officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
He is survived by his sons, Royal L. Nelson Jr. of New Bern, Edgar Gibbs 
Nelson and Samuel Jones, both of Bayboro, and Ivory Johnson of Burlington; 
daughters, Annie N. Green, Mary Swain and Shirley Williams, all of New 
Bern; one sister, Annie Banks of Greensboro; 20 grandchildren; and 37 
great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the residence. 
Viewing will be from noon to 6 p.m. today at Oscar's Mortuary.
