Obituary of Ruth Rogers Lee ~ 2007

ARAPAHOE - Ruth Rogers Lee, 84, died Monday, April 23, 2007, at Craven
Regional Medical Center.
She was the best wife, mom, mother-in-law, grandmom, and great-grandmom,
and everyone who met her liked her. Mrs. Lee was an active member of
Bethany Christian Church, where she served as deaconess, Sunday school
teacher, choir member and youth leader. She was also a charter member of
Pamlico County Historical Association. She volunteered with Hospice of
Pamlico County for 17 years, was a Meals on Wheels volunteer, volunteered
at Arapahoe Charter School, and former Girl Scout leader. She was a
sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II.
She was an avid collector of trains, stamps, coins and Tom Clark gnomes.
Mrs. Lee is survived by her husband of 58 years, Russel V. Lee; three
daughters and sons-in-law, Donna Ruth Lee Altman and husband Marion of
Arapahoe, Joy Lee Carawan and husband Tim of Grantsboro, and Jewel Lee
Styron and husband C.H. of Arapahoe.
She is also survived by nine grandchildren, Franz Altman and wife Denise
of New Bern, Jonathan Altman and wife Lori of Reelsboro, Andy Altman and
wife Erica of Alliance, Terri Salter and husband Bryan of Reelsboro, Chris
Carawan of New Bern, Brian Carawan of Greenville, Michelle Verhaeghe and
husband Grant of North Raleigh, Ken Styron and wife Rowena of West Hartford,
Conn., and Craig Styron of Washington.
She is survived by nine great-grandchildren, Sarah Altman, Sean Altman,
Wesley Altman, Brooklyn Altman, Hannah Altman, Emma Altman, Bryce Salter,
Faith Salter and Rylan Verhaeghe.
Mrs. Lee is also survived by her adoptive brother, Bud Daniels and wife
Carol of Merritt; her adoptive sister, Peggy Daniels Berwick and friend
Richie Butkus of Lindhurst, N.J.; and her foster sister, Lois Edwards and
husband Russ of Titusville, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 25, 2007, at
Bethany Christian Church in Arapahoe with the Rev. Merritt Watson, the
Rev. Gary Edge and the Rev. Roger Bennett officiating. Interment will be
at the Don-Lee Cemetery with military honors.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Bryant Funeral
Home, and other times at the home of Marion and Donna Altman, 6026 N.C.
