Obituary of Sina Josephine Mayo ~ 2006

GRANTSBORO - Sina Josephine Mayo, 85, of 185 Hwy. 306 S., died Monday, 
January 2, 2006 at Craven Regional Medical Center.  
She was a faithful member of rock of Zion Free Will Baptist Church. She 
and her husband owned Mayo's Variety Store in Bayboro for 18 years.  
Mama Mayo, as she was known to her family, was an honorable woman who 
dedicated her life and time to serving the Lord and raising her family. 
She put her family before anything else and was always willing to give to 
anyone less fortunate. Anyone who knew "Mama Mayo" loved her for her 
kindness and love for people.  
She was preceded in death by her parents, Norman and Dell Willis and her 
brother, Lockwood Willis. 
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Kermit Mayo; one daughter, 
Janice and husband, Jim Taylor, of Grantsboro; three granddaughters, 
Teresa of Grantsboro, Tammy and husband, Brooks Broughton, of Oriental, 
and Ginger and husband, Chip Dickinson, of Grantsboro; four great-
grandchildren, Tiffany Scott, Amanda and Brandon Broughton and Dale 
Dickinson; two brothers, Lloyd Willis and Morris Willis; and one sister, 
Bonnie Mae Humphrey.  
A funeral service was held Thursday, January 5 at 11:00 am at Bryant 
Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Michael Bryan and the Rev. Lee Toler 
officiating. Burial was in Paul Cemetery.  
The family received friends at Bryant Funeral Home on Wednesday prior to 
Thursday's funeral from 7:00 pm until 8:30 pm and other times at her home.
