Obituary of Esther Arlene "Sister" Broughton Marini ~ 2005

Esther Arlene "Sister" Marini passed away Wednesday, February 23, 2005.  
She was born March 21, 1925 in Oriental to the late James and Minnie 
Broughton.  After graduating from high school, she moved to Charleston, 
where she met her husband, Louis Marini, who survives her.
She retired from the Ohio Department of Transportation.  
During her years of retirement, she surprised and delighted us all with 
the hobbies she enjoyed such as painting, basket weaving, quilting and 
needle work. Her real love was golf, which she excelled at, winning a 
ladies tournament and after giving the men a run for their money. Many 
Pamlico County residents will remember her for teaching senior citizens 
exercise classes and her tireless fund-raising efforts for various 
charities. She was devoted to her family and held us all together with her 
tremendous love and laughter.  
Along with her husband Louis, she is survived by her children, sons Louis 
Jr. of New York City and his wife Carmen, Kenneth of Philadelphia; 
daughter Susan Ely and husband Roger of Raleigh; brother Jimmy Broughton 
of Oriental; sister Billie Glisom of Vera Beach, Fla.; six grandchildren, 
Louis Marini III, Preston Ely, Johanna Ely, Lauren Colon, Anton Marini and 
Nicky Marini; and four great-grandchildren, Alexis, Tyler, Taj and Alaina 
and many nieces and nephews who loved her like their own mother.  
The family will receive friends at Bryant Funeral Home in Alliance on 
Thursday evening from 7 to 8, and a funeral service will be held there on 
Friday morning at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Penny Dollar Farmer officiating.
