Esther Arlene "Sister" Marini passed away Wednesday, February 23, 2005.
She was born March 21, 1925 in Oriental to the late James and Minnie
Broughton. After graduating from high school, she moved to Charleston,
where she met her husband, Louis Marini, who survives her.
She retired from the Ohio Department of Transportation.
During her years of retirement, she surprised and delighted us all with
the hobbies she enjoyed such as painting, basket weaving, quilting and
needle work. Her real love was golf, which she excelled at, winning a
ladies tournament and after giving the men a run for their money. Many
Pamlico County residents will remember her for teaching senior citizens
exercise classes and her tireless fund-raising efforts for various
charities. She was devoted to her family and held us all together with her
tremendous love and laughter.
Along with her husband Louis, she is survived by her children, sons Louis
Jr. of New York City and his wife Carmen, Kenneth of Philadelphia;
daughter Susan Ely and husband Roger of Raleigh; brother Jimmy Broughton
of Oriental; sister Billie Glisom of Vera Beach, Fla.; six grandchildren,
Louis Marini III, Preston Ely, Johanna Ely, Lauren Colon, Anton Marini and
Nicky Marini; and four great-grandchildren, Alexis, Tyler, Taj and Alaina
and many nieces and nephews who loved her like their own mother.
The family will receive friends at Bryant Funeral Home in Alliance on
Thursday evening from 7 to 8, and a funeral service will be held there on
Friday morning at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Penny Dollar Farmer officiating.
Arrangements by Bryant Funeral Home, Alliance.
