VANDEMERE - Sybil Hickman Forrest, 99, died Thursday, February 6 at 
Britthaven of Pamlico. 
She was the oldest member of Vandemere United Methodist Church.  
She was a past member of Order of Eastern Star and Vandemere Volunteer 
Fire Department Ladies' Auxiliary. She loved to sew and cook for others.  
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Drew Forrest; two sons, 
Ralph Forrest and his wife, Joyce, and Edward Forrest; one daughter, 
Ruth Layton; and one granddaughter, Cheryl Nicholls.  
She is survived by four grandchildren, Dickie Layton and wife, Nannett, 
of Fredricksburg, VA, Chuck Forrest and wife, Wanda, of Oriental, Wendy 
Davis and husband, Tony, of Vandemere, and Eddie Forrest and wife, 
Kelly, of New Bern; daughter-in-law, Letha Forrest of Vandemere; 12 
great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.  
A funeral was held at 3:30 pm on Friday, February 7 at Vandemere United 
Methodist Church with the Rev. Mike Roach officiating. Burial was in 
Celestial Memorial Gardens.   
The family received friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
