Obituary of Thelma Ireland Spencer ~ 2011

ALLIANCE - Thelma Ireland Spencer, 96, passed away on Thursday, May 5, 
2011, at Gardens of Pamlico. 
Mrs. Spencer was a native of Pamlico County and was preceded in death by 
her husband, Maxie L. Spencer.  
Mrs. Spencer attended Appalachian State and graduated from East Carolina 
University. She taught school for twenty-three years in Tyrell and Pamlico 
counties. She was a charter member of the Alpha Psi chapter at the Delta 
Kappa Gamma International Society, a society for teachers.  
She is survived by three sons, James Spencer and wife Julia, Earle Spencer 
and wife D-Anna, and Robert Spencer and wife Lynette, all of Alliance; 
four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one great-great-
grandchild.  
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, May 11, at Bryant 
Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Roach and the Rev. Ray Lewis officiating. 
Entombment will follow in Greenleaf Memorial Park.  
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the 
funeral home and immediately following the service at the funeral home.
