Walter F. Paleen, Jr., 82, of Mildred Street in Oriental, passed away on 
Saturday, September 17. 
Walter was born in Duluth, MN, the oldest son of Walter and Lillian 
(Bergman) Paleen. Walter served his country in the U.S. Navy in World War 
II and the federal government. He retired in 1980 and has been a resident 
of Oriental, N.C., since that time. Walter was a loving and devoted 
husband, father and friend to countless family and friends. 
He is survived by the love of his life, Flora (Angus) Paleen, whom he met 
and married while serving with the Navy in Australia. They recently 
celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary. Also surviving are his son, 
William (Donna) Paleen of Hilton Head, S.C.; sister, Barbara Johnson of 
Keowee Key, S.C.; brother, William (Joyce) Paleen of Ithaca, N.Y.; and a 
host of nieces and nephews, all of whom loved their "Uncle Wally". Walt 
loved his life and possessed enormous capacity to spread joy and humor 
with everyone he met. His exploits as an athlete and man about town while 
in high school in Moose Lake, MN, are legendary and will be talked about 
by his extended family for decades to come.  
A memorial service to honor this fine human being will be held Friday,
September 23, at 10 a.m. at Bryant Funeral Home, Alliance. The family will 
receive friends following the service at the home.
