ALLIANCE - Whitford Armore Rice Sr., 71, of Alliance, died Saturday, Oct. 
24, 2009, at CarolinaEast Medical Center.
He was a member Alliance United Methodist Church, a Shriner and a member 
of Bayboro Masonic Lodge #331.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Hollywood 
Cemetery in Reelsboro, with the Rev. Dwayne Boyd officiating.
He is survived by his sons, Whitford Armore Rice Jr. and Gregory Rice, and 
his daughter, Debbie Smith, all of Moyock; two brothers, Melbie L. Rice 
and Jason Rice of Alliance; two sisters, Gloria Preston of New Bern and 
Shirley Gaskill of Cove City; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 8 p.m. at Bryant Funeral 
Home in Alliance, at other times at the home of his brother, Melbie Rice, 
393 Mill Pond Road, Alliance.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Sudan Crippled 
Children's Fund, P.0. Drawer 490, New Bern, NC 28563.
