William Henry Barnes, 84, of Bayboro died Friday, Sept. 19, 2008 at home.  
He was a member of Mt. Zion Free Will Baptist Church, where he served as 
Sunday school superintendent. He retired from the civil service production 
control in 1980. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and 
received two bronze stars.  
He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Barnes; his parents, Henry & 
Emma Barnes; one brother, Foley Ray Barnes; one sister, Hattie Barnes 
Smith; and one niece, Lynn Burroughs.  He is survived by one brother, 
Shade Barnes and wife, Christine, of Cash Corner; and three nieces, Ann 
Boyd and Susan Ezell, both of New Bern, and Sandra Braswell of Raleigh.  
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Mt. Zion Free Will 
Baptist Church, with the Rev. John Mark Windley officiating. 
Interment will follow immediately in Greenleaf Memorial Park with military 
honors. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at 
the church and at other times at the home of Mr. William at 6652 N.C. Hwy 
304, Bayboro, NC 28515.
