William V. Creel, 73 years of age, went to be with the Lord, on Monday,
July 5th at Pitt Hospital.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving for 6 yrs. Bill was as
courageous in his battle to live as he was in his life's work. He
served as a lieutenant with the Philadelphia Fire Department for 25 years,
always requesting the busiest stations. After retirement, this tireless
man worked an-other 18 years at Allentown State Hospital as fire marshal.
He volunteered with Southeast Pamlico Fire Company, Hope Clinic and the
Caring Carpenters.
Bill's love of history, esp. the Civil War, fueled his becoming a 2ND South
Carolina reenactor for many years. He was proud of his southern lineage and
joined the Sons of Confederate Veterans, flying the Stars and Bars on
commemorative days. One of the best things he found in Oriental, besides
warmer weather, was St. Thomas Episcopal Church where he served as junior
warden and on Church Vestry.
Bill is survived by his loving wife Elaine and sons William and Vincent.
Friends are invited to gather at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 13 at 5907 Oak
Lane, Oriental, to share memories of Bill and prayers. The service will be
at St. Thomas Episcopal Church on Wednesday July 14th at 2 p.m.
Arrangements are by Bryant Funeral Home & Cremations, Alliance.
