Obituary of William Edward Goodwin ~ 2005

William "Bill" Edward Goodwin, 79, a native of Alliance, NC died Sunday, 
May 1 in Athens, GA after a brief illness. 
He was the son of the late Mary Dixon Goodwin. 
He was a WWII navy veteran assigned to the Central Pacific Fleet at Pearl 
Harbor & served on the aircraft carrier USS Essex (CV-9). A retired 
Vice-President of United Telephone Company of Florida, he was employed for 
many years by Carolina Telephone & Telegraph working in New Bern, Kinston, 
& Clinton, NC before moving to Fort Myers, FL in 1970.
He is survived by Suzette Aldridge Goodwin & three sons: Dennis Goodwin of 
Atlanta, GA; Keith Goodwin of Athens, GA; & Robert Goodwin of Winterville,
GA; seven grandchildren; & three sisters: Wilma Boyd of Washington, NC; 
Margaret Smith of Morehead City, NC; & Jean Rowe of Newport, NC. A 
memorial service will be held in Alliance, NC at a later date.
