VANDEMERE - William Obie "Honey Love" Jones Sr., 86, of 333 Jones Road 
died Thursday, Jan. 8, 2009 at Craven Regional Medical Center.
He served his country proudly in the U.S. Navy for 30 years and was the 
last living survivor of Pearl Harbor in the area. He was a member of 
Antioch United Church of Christ, where he served on the trustee board for 
more than 20 years and served as a commissioner for the town of Vandemere 
for many years.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Sadie Simmons Jones of the home; 
six sons, George Jones of Atlanta, Ga., William Murphy of New Bern, Victor 
Jones of Jacksonville, Fla., Winfred Hamilton of Aurora, Lawrence 
Hamilton of Ozark, Ala., and Steve Hamilton of Rocky Mount; two daughters, 
Debra Ross of the home and April Smith of Edison, N.J.; 30 grandchildren; 
25 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; one brother, 
George Jones of Vandemere; and three sisters, Elaine Driggers and Velmond 
Jones, both of Vandemere, and Hattie Credle of Mesic.
A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Antioch United Church of 
Christ, with the Rev. F.L. Hyman officiating. Burial with full military 
honors will follow the service in New Bern National Cemetery.
A viewing will be from noon to 6 p.m. Monday at Rivers-Morgan Funeral Home 
Inc., 701 West St., New Bern and on Tuesday at the church one hour prior 
to the service.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
