Obituary of William Preston Whitney Sr ~ 2011

William Preston Whitney, Sr., 87, died Friday, July 8, 2011, at 
CarolinaEast Medical Center.  
He was a native of Oriental and served as a deacon and treasurer of 
Pilgrim Chapel M.B. Church. He served in the U. S. Army during World War 
II and was a member of the American Legion.  
His funeral will be 11 a.m., Saturday, July 16, 2011, at Pilgrim Chapel 
M.B. Church, 1413 Silverbrook Road, Oriental, with the Rev. Larry Faison 
officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at the Odd Fellow 
Cemetery.   
He is survived by his two daughters, Sephie Taylor and Portia Perry, both 
of Raleigh; one brother, Odell Whitney of Raleigh; three sisters, Elsie 
Fulcher and Betty Bromwell, both of Brooklyn, N.Y. and June Moore of Red 
Bank, N.Y.; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.  
The family will receive friends at the residence. Viewing will be from 
9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, at Oscar's Mortuary.
