Willie J. Wharton, 94, died Wednesday, March 22, 2006.  
Willie was born March 20, 1912, in Pamlico County and was a resident of 
Buncombe County for most of his life. 
He was an avid gardener and enjoyed the outdoors. Willie was a member of 
Riverside Baptist Church.  
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Talitha Wharton.  
Surviving are his wife, Evelyn Banks Wharton; daughter, Betty Ann Tweed 
of Candler; son, Bob Wharton and wife, Penny, of Weaverville; and 
grandchildren, Mark Wharton, Paul Wharton, Marion Thomas and Scott Tweed; 
great-grandchildren, Kara, Kristin, Randi, Samantha and Amanda; and 
great-great-grandchild, Courtney.  
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the chapel of West 
Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, with the Rev. John Honeycutt 
officiating.  Burial will be in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory.  
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service.
