MOREHEAD CITY- Willis “Bill” Gallop McCotter, 74, died Sunday, Sept. 23,
2007.
Son of the late Charles Jennings McCotter and Alice Gallop McCotter, Bill
grew up in Vandemere, Pamlico County.
He leaves his wife, Myrl Maness McCotter; sons, Wesley Paul and his wife,
Sherry, of Bradenton, Fla., Shannon Maness McCotter and wife, Roberta, of
Chester, Va., daughter, Alice Michele Andrews and husband, William Andrews,
of Madison, Ala.; grandchildren, Brittany, Caitlin and Noah Andrews,
Joshua and Courtney McCotter and Hannah McCotter; and brother, Alton
Norman McCotter and wife, Joyce Land McCotter.
Bill was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Jennings Jr. and Frank
Raymond.
After graduating from Pamlico County High School, Bill played baseball for
the Cleveland Indians farm league in Green Bay, Wis. Following graduation
from East Carolina College, he taught school and coached in Petersburg,
Va., followed by a career in the United States government before
retirement to Morehead City. During his career with the government, he and
his family lived in Petersburg, Va., Warrenton, Va., and Germany.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2007, at
First United Methodist Church, Morehead City.
