In the name of God amen.
I JAMES EVERETT of Beaufort County and state of North Carolina being sick
and weak of body, but of perfect mind and memory, thanks be to God for the
same therefore calling to mind the mortality of my body and knowing that
it is appointed for all men to die. Therefore I do make and ordain this
my last will and testament. That is to say principally and first of all
I give my soul unto God that gave it, and as for my body I recommend it
to the earth to be buried in a Christian like and decent manner, nothing
doubting, but that at the general resurrection I shall receive the same
again through the almighty power of God and as touching such worldly
estate which it has pleased God to bless me with in this life.
I give and bequeath in manner and form following.
Item: I lend my plantation to my daughter, HANNAH, during her life and
then after her death I give it unto my grandson James POTTER and his heirs
and assigns forever.
Item: I give James POTTER as likely a heifer as any I own.
Item: I give and bequeath unto Robert JONES my land I bought of Robert
EVERETT to him and his heirs and assigns forever.
Item: I give to Micjah EVERETT, William POTTER and Robert JONES one
hundred acres of marsh to be equally divided amongst them, all their heirs
and assigns forever.
Item: I leave all my hogs to be sold to pay my just debts.
Item: I leave the rest of my cattle after EVERETT hath fifteen head, which
I give him a deed of gift for, to be equally divided amongst my five grand
children.
Item: I give Micjah EVERETT two ewes and the rest of my sheep I leave to
be equally divided between William POTTER and Robert JONES.
Item: I give my daughter, HANNAH, a chest then all the rest of my property
I leave to be sold and the money to be divided between William POTTER and
Robert JONES.
Item: I give all my wearing clothes to be divided between my two brothers
ROBERT AND HUGH and I do hereby ordain, constitute and appoint William
POTTER and Robert JONES and Micjah EVERETT my executers of this my last
will and testament and I utterly disallow, revoke and disown all and every
other will and bequeath, ratifying and confirming this and no other to be
my last will and testament.
In witness whereof I hereunto set my hand and seal this ninth day of
October 1800.
